2007 Bodegas LAN Edicion Limitada, Rioja DOCa, Spain

2007 Bodegas LAN Edicion Limitada, Rioja DOCa, Spain

I'v bought this wine in May 2012 while we were returning from a trip to Andalucia, Spain. It's a limited editon of 37.000 bottles. I've paid around 36 Euros for the bottle and we (2 people) drank it with a pasta dish with a quite heavy sauce and the taste is stunning! I'm not a very big fan of Rioja but I think this has been one of my favorite Riojas... The blend is 80% tempranillo, 10% mazuelo, 10% graciano. I would definately buy it again!

2006 Legaris Reserva, Ribera del Duero, Spain

Legaris Reserva 2006

I've bought this wine from Madrid Barajas Airport in November while I was in transit on a return trip from Peru & Bolivia. I've paid around 24Euros for the bottle and had it with some Spanish "embutidos" (jamon, lomo, manchego cheese etc.) It would be a fantastic combination with heavy meats as well like all Riberas del Duero... It's made of 100% tempranillo grapes. I would definately go for it again!

This Spanish tempranillo wine is produced byLegaris S.L. in the Ribera del Duero D.O. (Denominacion de Origen) in northern Spain. Legaris winery is owned by the Codorniu Group, the oldest and largest producer of cava, Spanish sparkling wine. The modern, state-of-the-art winery was built between 1998-2000, and the vineyards were planted. Currently there are approximately 225 acres planted with mostly tempranillo grapes, and the balance are cabernet sauvignon.
An interesting note is that Legaris uses wooden casks from various origins and cooperages. According to the importer, Aveniu Brands (also a Codorniu Co.), "As many as 20 different types of barrels may be used to age Legaris wines," and this aging process is part of the "Legaris difference."

Summary

This wine is 100% Tempranillo (Tinta Fina), aged for 12 months in French Oak barrels, was not clarified, and is estate bottled. It is a full-bodied wine with a long finish.
  • Aroma of Ripe, Red Fruit, with Spices
  • Deep, Cherry Red Color
  • Pair with Grilled or Roasted Red Meats, or Cured Cheeses
Because it is a premium wine, we recommend it for a dinner party, or to pair with heavy tapas.

Los Vascos, Grande Réserve Colchagua

Los Vascos, Grande Réserve

Colchagua

I've managed to put in my luggage 3 bottles of red wine on my last trip to South America for ending the year in this spectacular continent! Like most Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon wines it has a very nice taste and I would definately recommend everyone to give it a try but I don't think that I would be carrying it once more all the way to Istanbul! I've paid around 12USD for the bottle and I have to admit that great value for money!

The Grande Réserve is a benchmark for elegance and finesse in Chile. The wine is a blend of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and is produced using traditional vinification and maturing techniques.

The wine is characterized by the complexity and persistence of its bouquet of cherries and blackcurrants (Cabernet Sauvignon), strawberries (Malbec), raspberries (Syrah) and plums, with notes of bay leaves and black pepper (Carmenère). A delicious, exciting wine, with great density and harmony.

Vintage 2009

From flowering onwards, the 2009 vintage experienced favourable weather conditions suited to optimal production. The rains were concentrated in the autumn and winter, in quantities close to the averages for the valley. The heat in the early spring was conducive to the buds opening and to the vines developing with controlled vigour. Temperature variations brought beautiful colour, intense fruit aromas and good quality tannins. The grapes ripened in ideal conditions through to the harvests.
Deep ruby red colour. Complex fruity nose, ripe cherries and blackberries, firm figs and notes of cedar, tobacco, cinnamon, white pepper, mint and bitter chocolate. Well-structured on the palate, offering remarkable balance, volume and consistency. A wine to be enjoyed alone or with friends, while reading a good book or simply for the pleasure of drinking a fine wine.
